Ashton Kutcher On Demi Moore Divorce And Pregnancy Loss - BuzzFeed

You might also remember that Ashton was married to Demi Moore from 2005 to 2013.

In a new interview with Esquire, Ashton talked about his marriage and subsequent divorce with Demi, as well as their attempts to welcome a child together early in their relationship.

Ashton said that his divorce from Demi felt "humiliating" and "embarrassing." “Nothing makes you feel like a failure like divorce," he said. "Divorce feels like a wholesale fucking failure. You failed at marriage."

“You own the shit you did wrong, and you go forward," he added.

Ashton also said he was "fucking pissed" when Demi's 2019 memoir Inside Out featured intimate details of their relationship — specifically because of the increased attention it brought to him, Mila, and their family.

“I’d finally gotten to a place where the press had really laid off me and Mila, and my life and my family," he said. "And then the next day, [the paparazzi] are at my kids’ school.”

Along with his comments on their breakup, Ashton also talked about when he and Demi suffered a late-stage pregnancy loss in 2003.

“Losing a kid that you think you’re going to have, and that close to thinking you’re going to have a kid, is really, really painful," he said. "Everyone deals with that in different ways."

“I love kids," Ashton added. "I wouldn’t have gotten married to a woman that had three kids if I didn’t love kids. The idea of having another kid would have been incredible.”

“For whatever reason, I had to have that experience."

Andrea Riseborough’s Path to Surprise Oscar Nomination Is Scrutinized - The New York Times

Andrea Riseborough got the nod for the little-seen “To Leslie.” The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is reviewing whether her A-list campaign violated rules.

When the Oscar nominations were announced last week, one of the most surprising was Andrea Riseborough’s inclusion in the best actress category.

Ms. Riseborough’s portrayal of a former lottery winner battling addiction in the little-seen “To Leslie” had received scant recognition on the awards circuit. Few critics included the film on their best-of-the-year lists, and it made just $27,000 at the box office during its initial release in October.

Yet just as voting for the Oscars began, a number of A-list actors started lauding Ms. Riseborough’s performance publicly. “Andrea should win every award there is and all the ones that haven’t been invented yet,” Gwyneth Paltrow wrote on Instagram, joining dozens of actors like Edward Norton and Susan Sarandon who lavished praise on Ms. Riseborough. Kate Winslet hosted a screening of the film, and during a virtual question-and-answer session with Ms. Riseborough and the film’s director, Michael Morris, called Ms. Riseborough’s work “the greatest female performance onscreen I have ever seen in my life.”

“The thing that feels most exciting is being acknowledged by your community,” Ms. Riseborough told The New York Times on the day she was nominated. “It’s a marker by which we measure ourselves in so many ways — by those we aspire to be like, or those we admire. So it’s huge.”

But what at first seemed like a story of how a grass-roots — though star-studded — word-of-mouth campaign had managed to help a respected actress crash the Oscar party quickly drew backlash.

There were soon questions of whether the efforts on behalf of Ms. Riseborough had violated Oscar rules (“Was the Andrea Riseborough Oscar Campaign Illegal?” read a headline in the Hollywood newsletter by Puck’s Matthew Belloni) and whether Ms. Riseborough, who is white, had secured a nomination that may otherwise have gone to a Black actress like Viola Davis (“The Woman King”) or Danielle Deadwyler (“Till”).

“We live in a world and work in industries that are so aggressively committed to upholding whiteness and perpetuating an unabashed misogyny towards Black women,” Chinonye Chukwu, the director of “Till,” wrote on Instagram after the nominations. Ms. Chukwu did not mention Ms. Riseborough or “To Leslie” in her post.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will take up the matter of Ms. Riseborough’s nomination during a previously scheduled meeting on Tuesday. Among the issues will be whether the campaign violated any academy rules and, if so, what the repercussions should be.

At issue seems to be the efforts by the actress Mary McCormack, who is married to Mr. Morris, and her manager, Jason Weinberg, who also represents Ms. Riseborough, to get her friends and acquaintances in the entertainment industry to watch the film and talk about it. Neither Ms. McCormack nor Mr. Morris is a member of the academy, though many of the actors who praised Ms. Riseborough’s performance are.

Howard Stern, Ms. McCormack’s co-star in the 1997 film “Private Parts,” praised “To Leslie” on his satellite radio show, and the veteran actress Frances Fisher repeatedly posted about it on Instagram, writing on Jan. 14 that voters should select Ms. Riseborough since “Viola, Michelle, Danielle & Cate are a lock for their outstanding work.” Mentioning competitors or their films directly is verboten when campaigning. Voters are also not supposed to be courted directly, without the academy acting as a gatekeeper of sorts.

The specter of rescinding Ms. Riseborough’s nomination has been raised, but one longtime academy member, who discussed internal matters on the condition of anonymity, considered that unlikely since she did not make the direct appeals to voters herself. An acting nomination has never been rescinded, though it has happened in other categories.

Ms. Riseborough declined to comment. Mr. Weinberg did not respond to requests seeking comment from him and Ms. McCormack.

The academy declined to comment for this article, but it released a statement that said, “We are conducting a review of the campaign procedures around this year’s nominees, to ensure that no guidelines were violated, and to inform us whether changes to the guidelines may be needed in a new era of social media and digital communication.”

Oscars campaigning has been a blood sport for decades. The modern Machiavelli for the process was, after all, Harvey Weinstein, who became notorious for bludgeoning would-be voters with parties, screenings and not-so-subtle whisper campaigns.

The process has become only more sophisticated. In 2019, for instance, Netflix rented two soundstages on a historic movie lot in Hollywood to push for “Roma.” The voters who attended “‘Roma’ Experience Day” received breakfast and lunch and there were hours of panel discussions with Alfonso Cuarón, the movie’s director, and his crew.

But there are rules, many of them put into place after Oscar campaigning turned into an entire industry, employing scores of consultants and strategists and generating millions of dollars of revenue for the trade publications that accept “For Your Consideration” advertisements.

Studios are permitted to send out only one email a week to Oscar voters, and they cannot send them directly. The emails must be routed through messaging services sanctioned by the academy. According to one awards consultant, who described the process on the condition of anonymity, each email blast can cost $2,000.

Screenings are permitted, with “reasonable” food and drink. (The rule book doesn’t spell out the definition of “reasonable.”) Everything must be provided in the same location where the movie was shown. Lavish dinners across the street or across town are not allowed.

As for individual lobbying, the academy includes only a one-line explanation of what is forbidden: “Contacting academy members directly and in a manner outside of the scope of these rules to promote a film or achievement for Academy Award consideration is expressly forbidden.”

In 2010, Nicolas Chartier, a producer of “The Hurt Locker,” was barred from attending the Academy Awards after he sent emails to voters urging them to vote for his film and not “Avatar.” In 2014, the composer Bruce Broughton contacted members directly, asking them to vote for his song from the unheralded film “Alone Yet Not Alone.” He received a nomination, but the academy rescinded it. In 2017, a sound mixing nomination for Greg P. Russell (“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi”) was rescinded for a similar reason. In each case, the academy declined to add a fifth nominee.

Ric Robertson, the academy’s former chief operating officer and a member for 24 years, said a failure to address the issues of personally lobbying voters could lead to more concerted campaigns.

“This campaign sounds like it was organic,” Mr. Robertson, who was involved in putting many of the campaigning rules into effect, said of Ms. Riseborough’s situation. “It came about because a couple of prominent people really liked the film and the performance and used their connections to promote it. Well, it could get a lot more organized next year and institutionalized at other companies.”

Though “To Leslie” was unknown to many voters before numerous stars began praising it, Ms. Riseborough is a respected British actress with a chameleonic flair. She has spent the past two decades playing complicated women in mostly independent films. She has worked for directors as varied as Alejandro G. Iñárritu (“Birdman”), Tom Ford (“Nocturnal Animals”) and Mike Leigh (“Happy-Go-Lucky”). Mr. Morris previously directed her in the Netflix series “Bloodline.”

And since the questions about Ms. Riseborough’s campaign have arisen, there has been a backlash to the backlash. The “unabashed solicitation of Oscar votes,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg said, “is a tradition almost as old as the academy itself.”

For the Oscars, this is the latest in a string of controversies in recent years. Some were self-inflicted, like the two consecutive years the organization nominated only white actors, which spawned the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite and led the academy to begin overhauling and diversifying its membership. The exclusion of Ms. Davis and Ms. Deadwyler, and Ms. Chukwu’s comments after the nominations, show that the issue remains a raw one.

Last year, as the Oscars were trying to recover from the pandemic, Will Smith shocked a global audience by slapping Chris Rock onstage during the telecast. Shortly after, Mr. Smith returned to the stage to accept the best actor trophy. The academy subsequently barred him from Oscar-related events, included the ceremony, for the next decade.

As for “To Leslie,” which barely had the funds to pay the $20,000 fee to submit it to the academy’s portal so members could watch it, all of the attention has seemed to help, a little.

Momentum Pictures, its distributor, returned the film to six theaters this past weekend, betting that Ms. Riseborough’s nomination would intrigue audiences. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it grossed around $250,000.

Showtime to combine with Paramount+, rebrand with new name - CNBC

Paramount Global is further joining its streaming and cable TV business by combining its Showtime TV network and streaming service, Paramount+.

The company said Monday it plans to integrate Showtime's streaming service fully into Paramount+, its marquee standalone streaming platform and response to the streaming wars.

But the union doesn't stop there. As part of this integration, the premium cable TV network, known for shows like "Yellowjackets," "Billions," and "Dexter," will be rebranded as Paramount+ with Showtime. The TV channel will also feature content from Paramount+, which has produced original series that spun off from the popular "Yellowstone" and "Criminal Minds" franchises. People can subscribe to Showtime for an extra fee on their pay-TV bundle,

Pricing for the combined streaming platform and other details will be announced in coming weeks, a Paramount spokesperson said Monday. Paramount+ starts at $4.99 a month, and Showtime's streaming service is $10.99 a month. A bundled offering of the two already exists, beginning at $11.99 a month.

In November, Paramount reported that Paramount+ had 46 million customers. The company reports fourth quarter earnings Feb. 16.

The move comes as media companies work to make their streaming businesses profitable. Competition is at an all-time high following a pandemic-fueled streaming boom, slowing the addition of subscribers. Stock prices have suffered, in part, due to this, and these companies have been experimenting to grow their streaming businesses.

Last year Netflix introduced a cheaper, ad-supported tier. While Disney was early to bundling its streaming options – Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ – it also debuted an ad-supported option and increased prices last year. Warner Bros. Discovery has been pulling back on content for its HBO Max, as it looks to cut costs, and also plans to debut a combined HBO Max and Discovery streaming app in the spring.

"This new combined offering demonstrates how we can leverage our entire collection of content to drive deeper connections with consumers and greater value for our distribution partners," Paramount CEO Bob Bakish said in a memo to employees Monday.

During the fall, Paramount restructured its Showtime business. Executive David Nevins, who'd been running the network since 2016, departed and Chris McCarthy and Tom Ryan took over. McCarthy also runs Paramount's cable-TV networks like MTV and Comedy Central. Ryan runs Paramount's streaming segment.

While McCarthy and Ryan will remain in place, Bakish acknowledged that the integration "brings uncertainty to the teams" that work on each brand.

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo welcome third baby after scandal - Page Six

Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine’s family has reportedly grown following the Maroon 5 frontman’s scandal.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel and the Maroon 5 frontman recently welcomed their third child, People reported Monday.

Page Six has reached out to the couple’s rep for comment.

News broke in September 2022 that the model, 34, was pregnant with baby No. 3 — the same month that her husband admitted to sending women flirtatious messages.

The 43-year-old singer’s confession came one day after Instagram model Sumner Stroh alleged via TikTok that she had an affair with Levine.

The Grammy winner denied a physical relationship with Stroh but did cop to “cross[ing] a line.”

Levine wrote, “I used poor judgment in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner.”

The “She Will Be Loved” singer went on to gush about how Prinsloo and daughters Dusty and Gio were “all” he cared about.

“To be this naive and stupid enough to risk the only thing that truly matters to me was the greatest mistake I could ever make,” he continued. “I will never make it again.”

Levine and his wife put on a united front as other women continued sharing alleged DMs from him.

Prinsloo, who hides the little one’s faces via social media, gave a glimpse into their family life in a December 2018 Us Weekly interview.

“He’s actually stricter than me,” she said at the time, adding that the songwriter “loves one-on-one time with” their girls.

“He’s a very hands-on dad,” Prinsloo gushed. “It’s awesome. I’m lucky.”

Tom Verlaine, guitarist and vocalist of punk rock band Television, dies at 73 - CNN

CNN  —

Tom Verlaine, founding member of seminal New York punk band Television, died Saturday at age 73 “after a brief illness,” according to a news release from Jesse Paris Smith, the daughter of Verlaine’s former partner Patti Smith.

Verlaine died “peacefully” in New York City, “surrounded by close friends,” according to the release. The guitarist, raised in Wilmington, Delaware, was “noted for his angular lyricism and pointed lyrical asides, a sly wit, and an ability to shake each string to its truest emotion,” the release added.

In a comment emailed to CNN on Sunday, Smith told CNN she met Verlaine not long after her own father had passed away.

“In him, I felt the energy of a father - a man to hug, to laugh with, to share in mischievous jokes and wild imagination,” Smith said. “He was the perfect friend and support for me as a little girl.”

Patti Smith backstage with Tom Verlaine of Television before performing at the event "Arista Records Salutes New York with a Festival of Great Music" at City Center on September 21, 1975.

“I think every person who was lucky enough to be close to Tom had their own version of this experience - whether through friendship or work, with Tom you had your own shared language, understanding, and universe, something so precious and rare, a one of a kind relationship with a true rarity of a soul,” she added.

His Television bandmate, Jimmy Rip, called Verlaine “blindingly smart, incredibly well-read as well as surreally silly.”

In a tribute on her verified Instagram, Smith said she’d love the late musician “forever.”

“There has never been another like you and there never will be,” she wrote.

Smith’s mother, the legendary musician writer Patti Smith, also posted her own tributes to her former partner on Instagram. The two were a couple in the 1970s and remained lifelong friends. She posted a picture of herself with Verlaine as well another of a vase of flowers with the caption, “This is morning thinking about Tom. Grief is not an affliction, but a privilege.”

Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Billy Idol similarly honored the guitarist and songwriter on social media. “He made incredible music that greatly influenced the US & UK punk rock scene in the ’70’s,” wrote Idol.

Television emerged from New York’s 70s punk scene and was a mainstay at the legendary CBGB club, alongside the likes of Talking Heads and Blondie. Their album “Marquee Moon” is considered a classic from that era.

CNN’s Rebekah Riess contributed to this report.

Annie Wersching, '24' actress, passes away at 45 - CNN

CNN  —

Actress Annie Wersching passed away of cancer early Sunday morning, her publicist, Craig Schneider told CNN. Wersching was 45 years old.

She was best known for playing FBI agent Renee Walker in the series “24.”

Wersching’s husband, Stephen Full, released a statement to CNN:

“There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall,” he wrote.

Wersching also provided the voice for Tess in “The Last of Us” video game. Neil Druckmann, the creative director of new HBO Max series “The Last of Us” based on the game, tweeted on Wesching’s passing:

“Just found out my dear friend, Annie Wersching, passed away. We just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is shattered. Thoughts are with her loved ones.”

(CNN and HBO Max are both part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)

A GoFundMe was set up by “Handmaid’s Tale” actress Ever Carradine in support of Annie’s children and husband “so they can continue to live life in a way that they know would make Annie proud.”

Wersching regularly appeared in television dramas throughout the aughts and into the 2010s. In 2007, she played Amelia Joffe on the long-running ABC soap “General Hospital.” Her breakout role came in 2008 when she portrayed FBI agent Renee Walker on the hit Fox show “24,” starring alongside Kiefer Sutherland throughout the seventh and eighth seasons.

Some of Wersching’s other notable TV credits include her role as the love interest of Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) on Amazon Prime’s 2014 series “Bosch” and a recurring role as the villainous vampire Lily Salvatore on the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries.”

Portraying the Borg Queen in “Star Trek Picard” in 2022, Wersching frequently shared photos of herself from set in full costume accompanied by messages of gratitude for the makeup and prosthetics artists that transformed her into the intergalactic villain. Wersching’s role in “Star Trek Picard,” which airs on Paramount+, is listed as one of the actress’s last professional credits on IMDb.

Wersching’s husband concluded his statement with a touching memory on Sunday.

“As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. ‘I love you little family…’”

Marc Anthony marries Nadia Ferreira in lavish Miami wedding - Page Six

Fourth time’s a charm.

Marc Anthony tied the knot with former Miss Universe contestant Nadia Ferreira in a lavish ceremony in Miami Saturday night.

David Beckham, Salma Hayek and Lin Manuel Miranda were among the guests at the star-studded affair, which took place at the Perez Art Museum, according to Hola!, who was first to report the news.

The musician, 54, was previously married to Dayanara Torres (2000 – 2004), Jennifer Lopez (2004-2014) and Shannon De Lima (2014 to 2017).

He proposed to the pageant queen, 23, in May 2022, just eight months before saying “I do.”

Photos from Anthony and Ferreira’s nuptials show the blushing bride in a white lace gown designed by Galia Lahav, which featured a sheer bodice adorned with floral embellishments.

Anthony, for his part, looked dapper in a Christian Dior suit.

It doesn’t appear that Lopez – or the former couple’s 14-year-old twins, Emme and Max – were present for the wedding.

The three were spotted out and about in Los Angeles with Lopez’s fourth husband, Ben Affleck, earlier that day, so it’s unlikely they would have made it to Miami for the ceremony.

Anthony’s daughter Ariana, 29, and son Chase, 27, from his previous relationship with Debbie Rosado also did not appear to be in attendance.

Reps for Lopez and Anthony did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

However, Anthony’s sons Cristian, 21, and Ryan, 19, whom he shares with Torres, were on hand to support their dad on his big day.

Anthony and Ferreira began sparking romance rumors during a romantic Mexico City getaway in early 2022, shortly after the Grammy winner split from De Lima.

The couple became Instagram-official last March, after the “Need to Know” singer posted a photo with his then-girlfriend on a private jet.

“May God multiply all that you wish us,” he captioned the adorable snap.

Two months later, Page Six exclusivley revealed the pair celebrated their engagement at Sexy Fish in Miami.

“Nadia and Marc looked over-the-moon happy,” a source told us at the time. “She was beaming ear to ear and was wearing wedding white.”

Ferreira then confirmed the news herself when she took to her Instagram Story to share a photo of her sparkling engagement ring with the caption, “Engagement Partyyyyy!!!! @marcanthony.”
