"F9: The Fast Saga" Set For $68M Open - Dark Horizons

F9 The Fast Saga Set For 68m Open

Universal Pictures’ “F9: The Fast Saga” is on track to gross $68 million in its U.S. domestic opening weekend.

The movie pulled in a major $30 million on Friday, a number that includes $7.1 million in Thursday night previews. That’s a single-day record for the pandemic era – helped by the film’s large footprint in 4,179 theaters.

The opening will easily surpass the $60 million domestic launch of 2019 spinoff “Hobbs & Shaw,” but is far behind the $98.8 million start of 2017’s “The Fate of the Furious” or the just shy of $150 million opening weekend of “Furious 7”. It’s also not clear how front-loaded the film will be.

Still, this is being seen as a win for cinemas and bodes well for the return of moviegoing in coming months with that opening weekend number set to be the highest-grossing box office debut since “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in December 2019.

“A Quiet Place” ($5.9M), “The Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife” ($4.6M), “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” ($4.5M) and “Cruella” ($3.5M) round out the top five.
