When Netflix says the upcoming fourth season of “Stranger Things” will be supersized – they weren’t kidding.
With the exception of the second and third season’s finales at 62 and 78 minutes respectively, every episode of the first three seasons of “Stranger Things” has clocked in under an hour with most around the 50 minute mark.
Netflix has now revealed that the fourth season in total will be over five hours longer than each of the previous seasons, despite having a similar episode count (with each season being 8-9 episodes). This is done by making each episode surprisingly long, here’s the breakdown:
EPISODE 1: 1hr 16min
EPISODE 2: 1hr 15min
EPISODE 3: 1hr 3min
EPISODE 4: 1hr 17 min
EPISODE 5: 1hr 14min
EPISODE 6: 1hr 13min
EPISODE 7: 1hr 38min
EPISODE 8: 1hr 25min
EPISODE 9: 2hr 30min
To put it in comparison, the entire third season had a runtime of 449 minutes whereas this fourth season will clock in at 771 minutes (Vol. 1: 536 minutes/Vol. 2: 235 minutes).
This partly explains the rise to a massive $30 million per episode budget for the new run along with the new season’s massive scale.
It all begins this coming Friday May 27th with Volume One, consisting of episodes 1-7, releasing. The remaining Volume Two, with episodes 8-9, hits July 1st.
